Apostle Paul speaking his last words to the unbelieving leading men of the Jews in Rome: The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, saying,”Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not understand.’ ”
“Render the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes dim, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.”
Paul had been through his greatest physical trial and, as God had promised, survived along with all 276 persons on the ship which included prisoners. His final destination was to be a witness to Caesar and to the Jews in Rome as declared by God through Jesus. Paul was not alone during his final days in Rome. He had rented quarters in which he stayed for two years. During this time, before his death by the Romans, he welcomed all who came to hear him preach God’s word. Paul was never alone, his ministry teams always prayed for him and this is what gave Paul encouragement.
We will face plenty of opposition and go through are own adversity for sharing the gospel of Jesus. Like Paul, we are prophets sent by God with special and specific gifts and talents that will enable us to continue where Paul left off.
Never look back, always press forward for we are not alone. The Holy Spirit himself is in us and guiding us to proclaim salvation to all who remain in darkness. You might be saying, “Jesus never spoke to me directly like he did to Paul!” The truth is that God has been speaking to us through the Bible.
In Paul’s day there was only the Old Testament. Bibles were scarce at best and only a few owned them. Everyone who follows and obeys God through Jesus carries the spirit of prophecy which is the testimony of Jesus. That makes us prophets. We are also greater than the Angels because Jesus died for us, not the Angels. The Angels were created for service unto God. One third of these Angels, along with their once awesome and beautiful leader, Lucifer, rebelled against God.
They are now on earth and are fully aware that their time is coming to an end. Until that day comes Satan and his now called demons have a mission which is to get as many people to reject Christ as they can. Paul’s mission was the opposite. Paul, who studied for twelve years under the leading teacher and pharisee, Gamaliel, had dual knowledge of Jewish Law and of the Christian Faith. God used this man to open up the gospel to the Gentiles.
Let’s continue to carry the torch that Paul passed on to us. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
