Living By The Holy Spirit

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭6-8‬

Flesh:

The flesh in this verse represents worldliness and separation from God. In simple terms, it’s when we decide to do things according to our thinking, not God’s.

The Spirit is God and is Co-Equal to God. The Spirit is a person and member of The Triune God otherwise known as “The Trinity”. The word, trinity, is not mentioned in the Bible; however, it is written about in the Gospels.

For example, Luke 3:22 tells us

and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

In this passage of scripture The Trinity is revealed. The Spirit (in the form of a human) came down like a dove, peacefully and then Father God was heard saying that He loves his Son, Jesus and that he is very pleased with Jesus.

Father God, Jesus and the Spirit they share – The Holy Spirit

That is the TRIUNE GOD!

If we decide to abide by the flesh we CANNOT hear the voice of God. It’s like mixing oil with water. Sexual immorality, drunkenness, racism, stealing etc. these are all abiding in the flesh, not the Spirit of God.

What will happen is that we will begin to disassociate from God. God; however, will not abandon you. Instead, if you have a relationship with Jesus, Father God will DISCIPLINE you.

Rebuke, Chastise and Scourge

God might rebuke you mildly or he might chastise you and finally if it means saving your soul, he might put you through a scourge or severe suffering to bring you closer to him. Hopefully, none of us will experience that; instead, fear God which means have reverence for Him.
