Do you give ten percent to your church? Tithing has been around since the Mosaic Law. As followers of Christ we are under grace, the Law was fulfilled by Jesus for it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. Must we give 10% each week to the church?
2 Corinthians 9:7 tells us, “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” In other words, when we give we should do it out of lovingkindness from a cheerful heart because God sees through to our heart. We do not necessarily have to give to our church, although, the church has many needs and can always use our generousity. Others benefit from our generousity also, including people we come across during our daily walk.
Remember, you reap what you sow. If you sow little you will reap little. If you sow generously you will reap generously. You can never out give our Lord. All followers of Christ are members of God’s church and Jesus is the head of the church.
Give from a cheerful heart according to what you have decided.
